Professor Kathleen Lynch BSocSc, MSocSc, PhD (NUI) is Professor of Equality
Studies at UCD. She focused her early studies on education and, along with Dr Anne
Lodge of NUI Maynooth, produced Equality and Power in Schools, a seminal work
on the subject of education access and attainment. As an academic, and an activist,
she pushed for the demarcation of equality studies as a discipline at UCD, eventually
establishing the UCD Equality Studies Centre in 1990 and the UCD School of Social
Justice in 2005. Since 2007 she has been Advisor to the EU Directorate Generalate on
Education and Culture. She is well respected internationally and addresses conferences
all over the world. She also works closely with a number of voluntary and community
organisations devoted to the promotion of social justice and equality.
